Clutha Archaeology Group’s purpose is to promote and encourage interest in the study of archaeology, history & heritage with special reference to Greater Glasgow & the Clyde Valley area. We met up originally as volunteers with Clyde and Avon Landscape Partnership (CAVLP) Heritage and want to continue with the same kind of activities, eg field survey, digs, archive research and training in archaeological techniques. We have a number of projects –
- recording the heritage in South Lanarkshire Council’s local nature reserves
- further investigating the possible promontory fort on the River Avon
- investigating the site of Eddlewood Castle on the Meikle Burn
- surveying the Iron Age and medieval promontory sites in the Upper Clyde incised valleys
