Scottish Community Heritage Alliance are organising 12 community heritage roadshows around Scotland. Clutha Archaeology Group will be manning a stall at the Clyde Valley roadshow in Lesmahagow. See details below.
The day is for anyone working or interested in local heritage. The stalls are open to the public from 1.00-2.30pm.

CVARF Symposium, June 7-8 2024
The first Clyde Valley Archaeological Research Framework (CVARF) gathering will be held on the 7th and 8th June 2024 in Glasgow. This event will involve short talks, specialist workshops and walking tours to showcase some of the exciting archaeology of the Clyde Valley region. The symposium will be held in the Senate Room at the University of Glasgow on Friday and at Govan Old Church on Saturday. It is free. QGIS is a free geographic information system. It is available to download on both Windows and Mac versions. The workshop will cover loading basic Ordnance Survey maps, LiDAR and Canmore data, which are all available for free. It will be held in Edward’s Lab at the Chatelherault Visitor Centre. Places are limited.

Talk by Paul Murtagh on The Clyde Valley Archaeology Research Framework Sunday 26 November 2023 at 10.30am
Paul Murtagh, a senior project officer with Archaeology Scotland is going to give a talk on the Clyde Valley Archaeology Research Framework (CVARF) on Sunday 26th November at 10.30am in the auditorium at Chatelherault Visitor Centre. This will be followed by a discussion as he wants to know what archaeological or heritage projects we are carrying out and what we would like to do in the future. Talk by Andrew Jepson on “Avon Gorge: investigating a possible promontory fort” September 3rd 2023 3pm
Andrew Jepson, a Project Officer with Archaeology Scotland, will be giving an illustrated talk in the auditorium at Chatelherault Visitor Centre on Sunday 3rd September at 3pm. He will be talking about the excavations in 2021 and 2023 of a possible promontory fort in Chatelherault Country Park. Dig at Avon Gorge Possible Promontory Fort April 13-17 April 2023
Archaeology Scotland will be running a dig at the possible promontory fort site for Clutha members.
‘Living Landscapes of Chatelherault’ Walk Saturday September 3rd 2022 1-4pm
Clutha Archaeology Group are having a guided walk in the grounds of Chatelherault Country Park in South Lanarkshire. We will be meeting at the Visitor Centre, a former kennels for the Duke of Hamilton and walking along paths above the Avon Gorge, visiting the Duke’s Bridge, Cadzow Castle, Cadzow Earthworks, Cadzow Oaks and the site of a possible promontory fort where a trial excavation took place last summer.

Walkover Low Parks May 8 2022
Walkover to visit the the motte, Heron Hill, Druid’s Hollow, Duchess Bridge led by Chris McGinley 10am – 1pm.
Visit to Low Parks Museum in afternoon to see Drawing on Green Spaces: A Creative Scotland funded project using the natural history of Neilsland and Earnock community woodlands, once the former Neilsland Estate in Hamilton, as inspiration for an intriguing variety of beautiful art works and Glasgow Institute of Architects: Re-imagining The Mausoleum. The Glasgow Institute of Architects and Hamilton Mausoleum Trust invited design ideas from architects internationally to design their vision for the landscape and Hamilton’s most famous landmark. The competition winner and some of over 100 entries are now on show at Low Parks Museum in partnership with South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and South Lanarkshire Council until the end of July.
